"The Judge" Release Date, Cast, Trailer: Defend Your Honor. Defend Your Family

Our past is our greatest teacher. A valuable message presented in the movie "The Judge." Grasping life lessons from the movie is just a plus. The film also presents an impressive on-screen chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. Trivia alert: Jack Nicholson and Tommy Lee Jones were also considered for the role as Judge Palmer. The movie pivots around a dysfunctional father-and son relationship.

Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.), is a great Chicago defense attorney, who receives news that his mother has died. Reluctantly he goes back to his hometown in Carlinville Indiana for her funeral. Having a fallout with the family many years ago, Hank knew he had to deal with his father, who is none other than Judge Joseph Palmer (Robert Duvall) once again. They don't really get along because of an incident that happened in the past. Tension is felt the moment they see each other.

But father and son will not only have to deal with an incident from the past. They also have to face head-on a present situation. Judge Palmer, the town's judge, is a murder suspect! And Prosecutor Dwight Dickham (Billy Bob Thornton) is dead serious in putting the judge in jail. Will Hank represent his father and save him? And will the family be able to let go of the past?

Other twist and turns will also happen in the film. Hank will bump into his high school sweetheart Samantha (Vera Farminga). Glen (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Dale (Jeremy Strong), the other Palmer boys, will surely make the homecoming of Hank interesting.

Meanwhile, Dax Shepard of Parenthood TV series, will play CP, a local attorney hired by Judge Palmer. Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester plays Carla, a sexy young bartender who is studying law.

"The Judge" is the first straight drama directed by David Dobkin. He is mainly known for movies like Wedding Crashers and Fred Claus.

Nick Schenk and Bill Dubuque wrote the screenplay. The film runs 141 minutes and got a rated "R" from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).
