Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook vs Amazone Fire HDX 7: As the first device to come out of the Samsung and Barnes & Noble partnership, the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook promises to offer the best of both worlds but still it is facing some serious competition from the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch
As the first device to come out of the Samsung and Barnes & Noble partnership, the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook promises to offer the best of both worlds: a great tablet and an industry-leading eReader. But that doesn't mean this 7-inch tablet doesn't face some serious competition from the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch.
Let us check out the specification of Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook and Amazone Fire HDX 7.
Until now, it was practically impossible to find a decent business tablet for less than $100. But Amazon's new 6-inch (15 centimeters) Kindle Fire HD 6 is looking to change that, with quad-core processors, HD screens and handy software features at an incredibly low price. The $99 Fire HD 6 slate debuted alongside the 7-inch (18 cm) Kindle Fire HD 7, a slightly larger slate with identical specs that costs $40 more. Samsung's costs just $179 (after a $20 rebate).
Amazon is touting the toughness of their new budget tablets, especially when stacked up against other cheap slates. Both Fire slates sport tough Gorilla Glass screens that withstand most scratches, as well as tough plastic composite backs that don't bend or flex under pressure. Amazon says the tablets were built to withstand drops from up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) in the air without sustaining damage. While, Samsung and Barnes & Noble built a tablet together, and it's supposed to offer a great reading experience, because that's what B&N is good at. Duh.
The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook are two tablets that are exclusively geared towards reading. Today, we look at the core differences between the two devices to give you a sense on their overall capabilities. Amazon tends to use a heavily skinned version of Android called Mojito. You cannot really establish live wallpapers or setup widgets on your home screen. The HDX was designed to integrate completely with the entire Amazon ecosystem, such as movies, television shows, apps and books. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook on the other hand is running Kitkat, and new Android updates should occur very quickly. Unlike prior Nook tablets, this one has two cameras and better sound. It also has Google Play to access new content, so you can do business with other bookstores.
Amazon's 7-inch slate costs $229, while Samsung's costs just $179 (after a $20 rebate). The measurements of the two are comparable, with the 9.74 ounce Tab 4 Nook coming in a hair smaller at 7.36 x 4.25 x 0.35 inches vs. the 10.7-ounce Fire HDX's 7.3 x 5 x 0.35 inches. But once you look at their features, Amazon provides more processing power, a higher-resolution screen, more processing power and more onboard storage. However, Barnes & Noble uniquely offers on-site tech support, multi-tasking goodness and a 3-MP rear-facing camera.
