Civilization Beyond Earth Spoilers, Reveals, Reviews, News and Plot: OS X and Linux Release to Follow that of Microsoft Windows
This is an upcoming turn-based game in civilization series developed by Firaxis Games planned for release on Microsoft Windows on October 24th 2014 and will be later on released for OS X and Linux. Beyond Earth shares much of that game's development team, as well as many concepts which were introduced in the 1999 title. The game's setting is unique to civilization series in that it takes place in the future, with mankind travelling through space and founding colonies on extraterrestrial planets after recovering from an unrevealed catastrophic event called "The Great Mistake."
In designing the tech web, the Beyond Earth team began by seeking information from Wikipedia article listed on Alpha Centauri, as well as reading books. The results of the research listed as a source of inspiration for Alpha Centauri designer Brian Reynolds. The game event is set approximately 200 to 300 years from the present time. The development team are using modern day space science, such as the Space X launches and the lessons of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, to help develop their vision and concept for the game's future. The game will also be able to support AMD's Mantle API.
Beyond Earth is expected to be the eleventh game of the Civilization instalments. The game is expected to be the mother lode of graphics put in comparison with their past work. Although gaming console owners might miss out on the fun as the game is only meant for Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux. Beyond Earth will turn-based strategy game played on a hexagonal-based grid, iterating on the ideas of building upon the engine of its predecessor, Civilization 5. Co-lead David McDonough described the relationship between the two games by saying, "the bones of the experience are very much recognizably strong. Having played civilization 5, the fans are curious to see the connection between it and the latest instalment that is expected to rock the gaming world.
