'Like a Country Song,' Upcoming Film To Feature For King And Country Artist, Joel Smallbone
Joel Smallbone, of the new breakthrough Christian group, For King and Country, will be starring in an upcoming film to be released in fall, 2013, entitled, 'Like a Country Song,' alongside Billy Ray Cyrus.
Smallbone will be taking on the role of Jake Reeson, an up and coming country singer whose future is wide open, however, he lets his ego get in the way, according to the 'Like a Country Song' Facebookpage. As Reeson's life begins to fall apart he needs to find a way to put it back together again amidst re-kindled romance and chaotic family dynamics, when he learns that his father, Bo, who he believed to be dead, is actually alive. Bo is likely to be played by Cyrus, however, this author has not found any definitive evidence concerning his role. "'Like a Country Song' is a story about Humility and Forgiveness in the presence of Pain and Burden," according to the film's synopsis.
Other stars in the film include Jennifer Taylor, as Reeson's mother, Mia, Kerry Knuppe, as Reeson's love interest, Becca, and Maddie Deutch, as a character named Zooey. Behind-the-scenes photos suggest a time progression in the film as they depict an actor playing a young jake as well as a little Lily.
Principle photography began on May 13. Billy Ray's first day on set was May 22. On May 30, the 'Like a Country Song' Facebook page posted, "Billy Ray Cyrus wrapped principal photography on @Skiptone Pictures new movie, Like a Country Song yesterday singing the title song to the movie. The experience of working with such an amazing performer and actor was a Blessing! thanks for all the hard work and support Billy Ray!"
The film was launched earlier in 2013 and is being filmed in Nashville, Tennessee through SkipStone pictures, the studio that created films like 'Cutback' and 'Hardflip.' It is being directed and produced by Johnny Remo and was co-written by Remo and Daniel Backman.
On May 31, For King and Country tweeted a photograph of Joel Smallbone posing with Billy Ray Cyrus and Booboo Stewart saying, "T'is a sad day when filming wraps with these 2 quality blokes: @realbooboofivel & @billyraycyrus. #likeacountrysong."
The website for the film is not being regularly updated at this time, but the 'Like a Country Song'Facebook page promises updated behind- the- scenes photographs as well as other updates and information.
