Anne Wilson "Blown Away" By Her Two GMA Dove Awards Wins
Capitol CMG artist and songwriter, Anne Wilson took home her first two GMA Dove Awards wins last Friday at the 2022 GMA Dove Awards. Wilson took the trophies for New Artist of the Year, as well as Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year, for her breakthrough hit "My Jesus." During her performance of the song, Wilson wisely and succinctly used the time to share the story that inspired the song --- the loss of her brother Jacob in 2017, as photos of her late brother filled the screen behind her.
"I never imagined I'd be here tonight, standing on this stage and getting to be amongst among all of you incredible artists," Wilson said in accepting her new artist of the year award, before thanking her label team at Capitol CMG, management team at Storyhouse Collective and her collaborators on the album. She also thanked her late brother Jacob. "You inspire me and that's why I do what I do, is to honor Jacob. Most of all I want to thank Jesus for his grace, his mercy and his forgiveness...I'm so thankful for all the artists in this category as well. You are changing lives and I'm so grateful."
Wilson further writes, "Oh my goodness!!!! I am BLOWN AWAY by God & His goodness. This week at the Dove Awards, God showed up yet again. I could feel His tangible presence in the room as I won New Artist of The Year and Pop Contemporary Recorded Song of The Year! Never in a million years would I have ever pictured myself standing on this stage to perform or accept these awards. Jesus has proven that we can picture so many different ways our life will turn out, but none of them will ever match up to the story He has planned for us. All glory to God!!! This is for you my sweet brother in Heaven."
Wilson's "My Jesus" was the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Christian Airplay Chart of 202l. The song also made Wilson the first female artist to hit the top of the Billboard Christian Airplay chart with a debut song. Her soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics have garnered the emerging artist over 170 million career streams, making her one of the most successful debut acts of 2021.The album is Wilson's testimony of her life's triumphs, devastating loss, and everything in-between that has set the stage for this exciting next chapter.
