Franklin Graham, Darlene Zschech, Sean Feucht, Greg Laurie & Jentezen Franklin Respond to the Crisis in Ukraine
Russian troops launched their anticipated attack on Ukraine on Thursday. On Saturday, it has been reported that Russian forces have captured the southeastern Ukrainian city of Melitopol. They are also making in-roads into the capital city of Kyiv, where gunfire erupted near government buildings in the city centre, military officials and a Reuters witness said.
According to Franklin Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the Evangelical humanitarian organization Samaritan's Purse, Samaritan's Purse has already deployed advance disaster response personnel to Poland and Romania to assess ways to help those who are fleeing across the border. They have also prepared their of our emergency field hospitals to be ready for deployment if that becomes a way they can respond.
Graham encourages Christians all over the globe to pray for Ukraine, "Please continue to ask God to work in the hearts of leaders and for an end to this conflict."
Jentezen Franklin, the pastor of the multi-site Free Chapel based in Gainesville, Georgia, also encourages Christians to pray. "The people and nation of Ukraine need your prayers and support as Russia continues their invasion. I have preached in Kyiv 5 times and these are some wonderful people. The nation needs God's protection as they are facing a barrage of missile, artillery and air attacks. This is potentially a major prophetic fulfillment."
Worship leader and senior pastor of HopeUC in Australia, Darlene Zschech also hopes that God will intervene and end his display of evil. "We ask that you continue to pray for the Ukraine.. for an end to this evil in Jesus name, and for peace and salvation for these precious people, our brothers and sisters."
"We will take time in all our services tomorrow to unite in prayer in one voice, and join the prayers around the globe for a miracle answer. Psalm 46:1 says 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble'.. If you have found yourself feeling anxious today, lean into Gods words of life, He truly is the God of all comfort."
Being more specific with his prayer requests, worship leader Sean Feucht lists a number of prayer points for us as we pray hrough this crisis:
1. Peace for the entire region.
2. Wisdom for our leaders to de escalate this conflict.
3. Protection for Ukrainians who are being attacked
4. Power for the Church to Preach the Gospel and Minister to the hurting.
California megachurch pastor, evangelist and author Greg Laurie also urges Christians to be united in prayer. "We stand united in prayer for the people of Ukraine. We ask for comfort for those experiencing the events unfolding as Russia has invaded. Until Christ comes, wars will never cease, but He has equipped us to be fervent in prayer for peace in these times. Pray for wisdom from above to be given to politicians and leaders. In Jesus' name, we say, "Be still and know God. He is exalted among the nations; He shall be exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:10). God be with the people in Ukraine."
