Rev. John Lee Hooker, Jr. Releases First Gospel Single and Music Video "My God Is Holy"
Detroit native Reverend John Lee Hooker Jr., is the son of one of the greatest Blues and Legendary music icons in the world, the late John Lee Hooker (1971-2001). He is a musical artist who has received multiple awards throughout his career - 2 Grammy® Nominations, The California Music Award for Best Traditional Artist (2004), The W.C. Handy Award (2004), the Bay Area Music Chapter Come Back Artist of the Year Award, and the 2018 Bobby Blue Bland Lifetime Achievement Award.
Rev. Hooker, Jr. has traveled the globe sharing the stage with musical giants such as the late John Lee Hooker Sr, B.B. King, Snoop Dogg, Taj Mahal, Lenny Kravitz, Z.Z. Top, the late Etta James, Buddy Guy, Charlie Musselwhite, and The Rolling Stones. With his extensive performance log, and long list of accolades in Blues music, Rev. Hooker, Jr. now adds the most essential elements to his career - Minister and Gospel Music Artist.
"I left the Blues for the Good News," Rev. Hooker, Jr. shares. "I influence people with my music. The challenge was to sing another type of song and to generate positive feelings and educate people to not live the life I once lived."
Rev. Hooker, Jr. holds an A.A. degree in Biblical Studies, a B.S. in Counseling, 5 Units in Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E), and is currently working on his Masters of Arts in Ministry. He is a Protestant Chaplain at the notorious supermax facility Pelican Bay State Prison and is a hospice Chaplain at Blossom Ridge Home Health in Sacramento, CA.
Now submerged in a life of ministry, Rev. Hooker, Jr. sings a different tune, the tune of the Gospel wrapped in his soulful, iconic blues signature sound.
"I'm glad to go back and minister in the same places that once held me in bondage most of my life," Rev. Hooker, Jr. testifies. "I get blessed when seeing someone smile who has been touched through my music. I want to minister to people so they understand and believe they can have a better life than what they are living."
"My God Is Holy" is Rev. Hooker, Jr.'s first single from his forthcoming TESTIFY album. The single is impacting Gospel and Urban AC Radio stations across the country. Written by Rev. Hooker, Jr. and album producer Larry Dwayne Batiste, "My God Is Holy" also has a companion music video that can be watched and shared on YouTube.
