Calvin Simon Receives Outstanding Achievement Award from Pasco-Hernando State College
Calvin Simon has once again been honored with an Outstanding Achievement Award, this time from Pasco-Hernando State College in Dade City, Fla. The Pasco Notables award presentation took place in late February, during Black History Month, at the college campus. The award is bestowed to Pasco county residents who have a positive impact and provide leadership through their careers and charity efforts for the area. Simon's acceptance speech received a standing ovation from attendees, which included the college students, with his message of hope, faith and perseverance during difficult times.
The Pasco Notables annual awards had such an impact on Simon that he has offered to purchase the award statues for the next three years in honor of his late wife, Jennifer Simon, who passed away from cancer in 2013.
"I was so impressed with Pasco-Hernando State College and how they are supporting the students and community in such an encouraging way, "said Simon. "I wanted to add my support to the Pasco team, and at the same time honor my late wife. Jennifer was such a loving and giving woman, so it seemed fitting to give her this recognition."
Simon will be heading to Los Angeles in May, where he will receive the Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award that will be given to the members of Parliament Funkadelic. Simon is one of the founding members of the group and remained with the band for 25 years before going solo as a Christian artist. In early recognition of the Lifetime Achievement Award, members of P-Funk were invited to attend the 61st Annual 2019 Grammy Awards last month, with Simon walking the Grammy red carpet and doing numerous interviews with national media.

About Calvin Simon
Calvin Simon has released three projects since becoming a Christian artist in 2002, with his current album I Believe, garnering gospel radio airplay for the title track and "Passing Time." His second solo record, It's Not Too Late, received strong support from media with coverage from Voice of America, Sirius XM Radio, CBN/700 Club, VFW Magazine, 100 Huntley Street, Christian Television Network, among many others.Simon released his first Christian album, Share The News, in 2004 that reached No. 21 on Billboard's Gospel Albums chart. During this time, Simon was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and all efforts to support the record, including a tour, had to be cancelled. Simon's strength during his recovery was aided by his faith, which began as a child growing up in Beckley, West Virginia and rededicating his life to Christ in 2002 with a second baptism.
Despite Simon's personal hardships, he has enjoyed a stellar career as a member of The Parliaments and Parliament Funkadelic for 25 years that resulted in numerous Platinum and Gold albums, along with the prestigious induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Simon and three other founding members of Parliament Funkadelic formed a new band Original P, and when the group disbanded, the music legend developed a production and record company, Simon Sayz Recordings, which led to Simon becoming a solo Gospel artist.
