Gaither Store and Restaurant Closing
Since the mid-1960s, Gospel legends Bill and Gloria Gaither have maintained a busy schedule full of many pursuits-raising a family, writing songs, touring, operating various businesses, and so forth. They are now taking steps to simplify their lives a bit, and to that end, they have decided to close the Gaither Family Resources gift shop and restaurant located in their hometown of Alexandria, Indiana. Until the closing date of March 1, 2019, the restaurant will continue to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the gift shop will be open with a 50 percent discount on the entire inventory.
The following is taken from a statement released by the Gaithers:
Dear Friends,
If we have learned anything over more than 50 years, it is that change is one of the most consistent realities of our lives. Much has changed in the years since we began to publish the first songs we were writing when we were still teaching at the local high school. Over the years our passion to fill our world with singing has taken many forms: a publishing company, a recording studio, a sound and lights support team, and, 23 years ago, a place where people could come to find not only our recordings, videos, and writing, but all kinds of great resources for home and family and for personal growth. We wanted a place where friends could meet and find community as well as a place where busy (and sometimes stressed out) people could find safe solitude and a quiet place to restore the spirit.
Now, we again move on to a new phase of our lives. As of March 1, 2019, we will be closing Gaither Family Resources. We feel as though all of our goals have been met and, more than we ever could have dreamed, this place has become not just a "store" but an experience of solitude, community, and inspiration for every area of life. People from toddlers to the aged have come from every state and many foreign countries to share our dream and take-home music, resources, and experiences to feed and enrich body, soul, and mind.
Now we are ready to close this chapter of our lives and invest the years and energies we have left in the music and writing that brought us to the party in the first place. Bill will continue to travel and record; Gloria will spend more time writing and investing in the many young people she mentors, as well as promoting the growth of Christian Higher Education. We both will continue to write new songs and create new resources for a new, emerging era.
We treasure the almost quarter century of beautiful memories we have made with all of you who have come through the doors of this welcoming place ... May this community continue to grow and exemplify the values of the Heartland: hospitality, generosity, honesty, stability and a "welcoming spirit" to all who visit or come back home!
With gratitude and joy!
