'The Hunger Games' Mobile Game Being Developed by Kabam Entertainment Company
Interactive entertainment company Kabam will be partnering with Lionsgate to create a Hunger Games mobile game, the company announced on Friday. The game will be for play on smartphones or tablet computers and based on the Hunger Games books and films.
Kabam is based out of San Francisco and specializes in mobile games that are free-to-play, which is nice for the user, except that they then have digital ads to sit through at times. Their vision for the game will be based around users being District members, building alliances and trying to free themselves. The story will center around a futuristic society which stages televised death matches among youth.
"Lionsgate has an unparalleled track record of developing and producing blockbuster movie franchises like 'The Hunger Games,'" Kabam chief operating officer Kent Wakeford said in a release. "Partnering with Lionsgate, Kabam will build a mobile game that's as much fun to play as the movie is to watch."
The Hunger Games films have been a wild success starring Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth. The two movies released thus far have taken in more than $1.5 billion at box offices worldwide. The third movie set to hit theaters in November 2014.
"We are so pleased to be working with Kabam to give the fans an experience like they have never had before," said Lionsgate executive vice president of digital media Danielle DePalma. "Being able to role-play with the mentors straight from the world of 'The Hunger Games' will let fans feel as if they are in the middle of the action."
The Kabam studio in China will be developing the new game where they also created the mobile game based on The Hobbit movie.
