American Idol's Christian Rocker Colton Dixon is Married
American Idol alum and contemporary Christin artist Colton Dixon has married his longtime girlfriend Annie Coggeshall in Nashville Friday night (Jan. 8), The season 11 Christian rocker serenaded his bride with Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love With You" at a reception held at Nashville's Scarrit Bennet Center.
"Married my best friend last night," Colton shares.' "I love you Annie Coggeshall! What a great night with family and friends. "
Dixon admits he was overcome by emotion as his bride-to-be walked down the aisle. "She was glowing and it was unbelievable how beautiful she was," Dixon told People Magazine. "I absolutely lost it. Audible tears. And I'm not a good-looking crier either!"
The couple celebrated with 160 of their closest family and friends, including Dixon's sister Schyler, also auditioned for Idol. She sang a touching version of "How Great Thou Art" as the couple lit a unity candle and took communion. Among the many guests was Christian artist Steve Curtis Chapman who sang "Cinderella" for the father-daughter dance.
The couple will honeymoon in Tahiti and has plans to settle down in Nashville at a home the singer has been renovating.
Dixon proposed to Coggeshall at Walt Disney World, hiding the ring inside a glass slipper. Dixon shared a photo from the nuptials on Instagram, happily writing, "Married my best friend last night. Love you @annieCog. What a great night with family and friends."
Dixon also took to Twitter, reporting, "So.....I most definitely did not ugly cry 4 1/2 times last night.....Nope.....#coltanwedding"
Speaking to Billboard, Colton is happy to find his calling in Christian music. He said: "I've been listening to Christian music since I was little. I grew up with it." Dixon added that he loves music with a message and is therefore drawn to Christian rock tunes. "I'm very happy that I was excepted well into that market. You never know...being an "Idol" and going into Christian music - I've seen it work and I've seen it not work. I'm happy that it did."
