Gospel Music Songwriter Mosie Lister's Life Celebrated

A "Homegoing Celebration" honoring the life of Southern Gospel songwriter Mosie Lister was held Feb. 24th at The People's Church in Franklin, Tennessee. Pallbearers included Steve Mauldin, Michael Booth, Ronnie Booth, Jim Brady, Josh Butterworth and Jake Sammons.  Honorary pallbearers were Bill Gaither, Joe Huffman, Ron Booth, David Williams and Jimmie Vann. Mosie Lister was laid to rest in a private graveside service at Williamson Memorial Gardens.  

On February 12, we bid farewell to Thomas Mosie Lister.  He was 93 years-old.  Lister is known as a songwriter for over 700 songs, with thousands more in arrangements. His music has been recorded by some of the greatest Southern Gospel Quartets including the Statesmen Quartet, Cathedral Quartet, the Blackwoods, the Blue Ridge Quartet, the Jordanaires, and the LeFevres.

Legendary solo artists have also recorded his songs such as George Beverly Shea, Porter Waggoner, Bill Gaither, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and Elvis Presley, who recorded three of Lister's songs in the 1960s: "Where No One Stands Alone" "He Knows Just What I Need" and "His Hand in Mine"

Preceded in death by parents, Willis & Pearl Holland Lister; brother, Walter Olan Lister and wife, Wylene Whitten Lister. Survived by wife of 13 years, Martha Jean Lister; daughters, Brenda Lister (Jimmie) Vann & Barbara Lister (David) Williams; step-daughter, Vicki (Michael) Booth; sister, Margery Dillashaw and seven grandchildren.
