Dolly Parton Urges Christians to "Love and Accept" Her Gay Fans
Country music star Dolly Parton expresses her love and acceptance to all her lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender fans and she urged her fellow Christians not to judge anyone.
Speaking to Billboard magazine about her LGBT fans, Parton says, "They know that I completely love and accept them, as I do all people. I've struggled enough in my life to be appreciated and understood. I've had to go against all kinds of people through the years just to be myself. I think everybody should be allowed to be who they are, and to love who they love. I don't think we should be judgmental. Lord, I've got enough problems of my own to pass judgment on somebody else."
In fact, Parton has written a brand new dance song entitled "Just a Wee Bit Gay" and she is also planning a dance record that is friendly to her LGBT fans. "At some point I would like to do a dance record and I have several songs that are very positive towards the gay community. I have a song called 'Just A Wee Bit Gay.' It's a great little dance tune, it's funny and it's got a lot of comic in it... I do write a lot of songs along those lines with people that are different and are just themselves."
This year also marks the 50th Anniversary since 68-year-old international icon Dolly Parton came to Nashville. Now she is a business lady who owns a Tenn.-based Dollywood theme park, which annually hosts nearly 2.5 million visitors, and she's also the owner of 25 Billboard #1 hits. Some of her biggest hits include "Jolene," "Why You'd Come in Here Looking Like That," "Islands in the Stream" (with Kenny Rogers), "Real Love," "Rocking Years" (with Ricky Van Shelton), "Silver and Gold," "Coat of Many Colors" and many others.
In 1994, the Parton-penned "I Will Always Love You" became a signature hit for Whitney Houston which went on to sell over 4 million copies. In 2014 alone, Parton's 42nd studio album, Blue Smoke, debuted at No. 2 on Top Country Albums and No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
