Nexus Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date: Confirmed on November 3; Nexus 9 Could be the First to Run the New Operating System
Amidst speculations among the techies on the much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop, Android Geeks confirmed that it will be on November 3.
Google also sent notice via e-mail to Android Police with the instruction to inform developers that Android 5.0 Lollipop SDK is already available. Adding further that developer must have the apps tested and published on Play Store before the scheduled date of release.
Android Developers Blog revealed important APIs and features of the Lollipop. The new operating system comes with a Material Design theme and APIs; Project Volta and Battery Historian which shows battery life and is equipped with battery statistics that will allow users to opt for battery save mode and a mechanism that shows how much time is left before the battery needs to be recharged. Enhanced Notifications which allow users to check and view notifications even on a locked screen; Quick Settings offers more command buttons; Through Screen Pinning, multiple users are now possible for smartphones while putting to safety other import stuff; OpenGL ES 3.1, Android Extension Pack and 64-bit back-up for games and app performance.
With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, also come the Nexus devices. IDigitalTimes reported that the Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player are the first to have this version of Android, afterwhich Android 5.0 update for Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10 devices and Google Play edition devices will be rolled out. However, there is a probability that Nexus 9 will be the first device to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update if Google will release Nexus 9 on November 3, ahead of Nexus 6.
For security purposes, the update includes an automatically turned on encryption, Android Smart Lock and SELinux enforcing for apps. It also comes with improved network handoffs, energy-efficient for Bluetooth scanning and a Bluetooth Low Energy peripheral mode.
For other devices, the release date will depend on individual OEMs. Motorola, Sony, Samsung, LG, HTC will specify their own time-frames for Android 5.0 Lollipop update OTA. Updates and schedule of release for individual devices will be posted.
