'Independence Day 2', 'Hitman: Agent 47' and Other Films Get New Release Dates
You might be waiting for some films to be released this year. Well, we think you need to get yourself updated. Some of the major film studios like 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures and The Weinstein Company have set new dates of their films for some of their noteworthy projects like the sequels of "Independence Day 2" and "Hot Tub Time Machine 2"; the action series reboots "Hitman: Agent 47" and "The Tranporter Legacy"; and few other projects on the side.
First, 20th Century Fox moved the release of "Independence Day 2" up a week to June 24, 2016. The director of the film, Roland Emmerich recently confirmed that the sequel is still being actively developed and it will no longer released on the fourth of July holiday frame, like its predecessor did in 1996, based on the report of Screen Rant; instead they will place the Mummy reboot in its first weekend. Emmerich's film is expected to bring the feelings of nostalgia when it arrives on the original ID4's 20th Anniversary, which should also help its box office performance in the current age of different event movies and big-budget franchise offerings.
On the other hand, 20th Century Fox also pushed Agent 47 from its release date of February 27th to August 28th 2015, according to Polygon. This is a really shocking move because the video game adaptation of the film might be released on the summer of 2015. Anyway, Fox still has the Mark Millar comic adaptation "Kingsman: The Secret Service" arriving in February 2015, so now the Hitman reboot won't have to compete with director Matthew Vaughn's movie for the attention of action cinema lovers that month.
The direct competition of Hitman today is the Ethan Hawke/Emma Watson crime thriller film Regression, so we have to wait and see if this second attempt at starting a Hitman movie franchise goes better than the first one.
The winter holiday frame is especially competitive when it comes to family-friendly material this year like "Annie" and "Into the Woods", so the Weinsteins' decision to shift "Paddington" - a new big screen adaptation of the beloved British children's literature character - to a far less jam-packed January 16th, 2015 launch pad, seems perfectly reasonable. The movie will now serve as counter-programming to the Chris Hemsworth thriller "Blackhat" and the Kevin Hart comedy "The Wedding Ringer" in mid-January next year.
In other release date news, Europa Corp's "The Transporter Legacy" - a reboot of the Transporter franchise that replaces Jason Statham with Ed Skrein (Daario Naharis on "Game of Thrones" Season 3) - has taken "Agent 47's" old spot on February 27th, 2015.
Meanwhile, Sony/Columbia has moved up the Untitled Seth Rogen/Joseph Gordon-Levitt X-Mas Movie from December 11th to November 25th next year. The comedy will now hit theaters during the same Thanksgiving holiday frame as such films as Ridley Scott's space survival drama "The Martian" and Pixar's upcoming original animated feature "The Good Dinosaur."
Let's wait and see for this upcoming films, even the release dates are moved, it's still worth to wait for sure.
