Surface Pro 2 vs Surface Pro 3 Comparison: Does Microsoft Redeem Itself with the Bigger Tablet Dubbed as PC Replacement?
Tech-companies have been grueling to have the leading device available. Aside from targeted sales, tech-giants also wanted to maintain a high esteemed reputation as one of the most innovative companies of the 21st century.
Microsoft, originally one of the pioneers in a software making, is now a company that ventured outside its comfort zone to be able to catch up on the tougher technology market. Just last year, many Microsoft loyalists have waited for the release of their new tablet, the Surface Pro 2.
But Ordoh reported that the device was not able to meet the user's expectation. Microsoft then lowered the Surface Pro 2's price down by $100 and it somehow worked as expected. But still, tech-geeks are not really impressed with the tablet.
To redeem itself, the American tech-giant then released last May the tablet's better version, Surface Pro 3, which they marketed as a laptop and PC replacement. To find out if Microsoft's claims are true, here is a comparison between the two Surface Pro's.
According to Engadget, Surface Pro 3 has a bigger screen, 12 inches with 2160 x 1440 resolution, compared to Surface Pro 2's 10.6 inches display with 1920 x 1080 pixels. Pro 3 is also bigger and heavier but thinner compared to Pro 2.
Microsoft engineers and designers have particularly worked on slimming down their latest flagship tablet through the use of the existing thinnest Intel Core i7 processor. Surface Pro 3 is also available in i3 and i5 processor variants while Surface Pro 2 on the other hand has NVIDIA's Tegra 4 processor inside.
Surface Pro 3 also have a 30 percent cooling feature that will help to avoid overheat. It can be recalled that one of the loop-holes seen in Surface Pro 2 is that it easily heats up when used continuously. It is also said to meet Microsoft claims as a tablet where you can do PC works.
On the other hand, both tablets have 4GB and 8GB RAM options and minimum memory capacity of 64GB. Although Surface Pro 3 has 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB variants, it has no memory card slot available, thus storage capability is not expandable. Pro 2 and 3 also shares the same quality of camera at 5MP.
In terms of price, Latin Post reported that Surface Pro 2 has the following price list: 64GB at $899; 128GB at $999; 256GB at $1299; and 512GB at $1799. Surface Pro 3, meanwhile, 'goes for $799, 128GB/i5 for $999, 256GB/i5 for $1299, 256GB/i7 for $1549 and 512GB/i7 for $1949'. With its improved features, Pro 3 is clearly more expensive than its predecessor.
If you are not impressed yet with both tablet, then you better watch out for the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 4.
