Retina iMac 2014 Release Date, Specs, and Price: Unveiling on October 16 Apple Event; 27" Model Gets Improved Display and Processor; Cost May Be Higher Than $2,000
The Cupertino-based tech-giant cannot seem to cease on creating something new. After its newest flagship smartphone set record breaking debut sales, Apple will be unveiling a new set of devices that they hope can also take the tech-world by storm.
Many tech-savvies and Apple fans are waiting for the anticipated October 16 event that will be held in California University. One of the new devices that will be unveiled is the rumored Retina iMac 2014, MacWorld reported. Tracing back the iMac's history, Apple updated their flagship iMac almost a year ago. It was September 2013 when the tech-company upgraded iMac with Haswell processor, improved graphics, better Wi-Fi and faster PCle flash storage options.
Last June, Apple launched a cheaper iMac that possess no systems and design upgrades. The reason why update has been delayed is said to be because of the setback of Intel's Broadwell Chips. But now, rumors suggested that a new and improved iMac is set to have its debut this month.
In his own website, Jack March quoted sources that confirmed the Retina iMac 2014's launch on Apple's Thursday event. The new large-screen monitor is set to double the current resolution of a 27" iMac. The 2014 version of the device will have a 5120 x 2880 panel.
Aside from improved panel, Retina iMac will also have a better processor compared to its predecessor. Apple is said to stay with the Haswell CPU but the new flagship will have its top processor configuration which is the Intel i&-4790K. On the other hand, the new iMac will have the same design and dimensions of the old versions.
In terms of price, Gizmodo tried to predict the cost of a 27" Retina iMac 2014 version. Basing in MacBook Pro 15" with retina display, which costs around $2,200 to $2,800, "a retina iMac would start at as much as $2200," the site says.
Gizmodo also put forward that during 2012, retina display upgrade for MacBook Pro costs $400, including additional flash memory and twice RAM. Currently, the retina upgrade comes for a cheaper $300 rate.
Because Apple has yet to confirmed the actual release date, specifications, and price of the 2014 Retina iMac, fans will have to wait for these information. However, they are bound to be released soon; fans need not wait that long.
