'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' TV Series: Sony and DXS Brings the Fans to Flint's High School Life

Sony Pictures Animation fuses with DHX Media to take "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" to the small screen, as a series based on the hit film. The series is set to run twenty-six episodes, each having duration of twenty-two minutes. In addition to that, DHX Media will also handgrip the global merchandising for the television adaptation of the said movie.

The animated series is set to take place in the blue-collar town of Shadow Falls, before the giant food rained down. It will chronicle the high school life of unconventional young scientist Flint Lockwood.

The series will follow the main characters Flint Lockwood and Sam Sparks. Other characters of the series will include Flint's Dad Tim, Steve the Monkey, Manny the head of the school's audiovisual, school gym teacher Earl (before he becomes a cop), Bret who still endorses baby wear, and Mayor Shelbourne, who wins every election on the pro-sardine project.

The first installment of the movie was written and piloted by Phil Lord and Chris Miller while the second installment was pilot by Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. IGN reported that the movie became a 'must-have' in movie collections for parents, since it has unusual jokes and very lively characters. "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and "Cloudy With a Chance of meatballs 2", have made a total of $510 million at the box office.

In a report in Variety, President and COO of DHX Media Steven DeNure spoke his thoughts about the film. "'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' has a tremendous legacy as beloved children's books and a duo of highly popular feature films, showing how great ideas can succeed across media," DeNure said. "We believe audiences both old and new are going to love this fiercely funny franchise reimagined for the small screen," he added.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Animation executive producer Rick Mischel builds up DHS Media in Entertainment Weekly. "DHX's track record in creating great kids' television content makes them an ideal partner to capture the unique humor and tone of Flint Lockwood and his friends that made the theatrical franchise so successful," Mischel said.

There could be changes in some of the events in the episodes in the television remake, according to Slashfilm. Moreover, fans still have to wait for further announcement, since there is no exact detail yet on the release of the upcoming television series.
