Penny Dreadful Season 1 Review, Reveals, News, Rumors and Updates: Shooting for the Second Season has Already begun in Ireland
Penny Dreadful is produced by John Logan and Sam Mendes and was initially touted to a number of stations before it was picked by Showtime and Sky (for UK viewers), executives at all the other networks that passed it up are now kicking themselves in the head for passing it up. The show has exceeded all expectations and has become a favorite in the horror genre. Shot in Dublin, Ireland Penny Dreadful has quickly come to the fore as the go to show for people looking for horror that is interesting and worth watching.
Unlike most horror shows that have gore for the sake of it, this show has an interesting storyline that has somehow managed to intertwine all the classic horror stories. From Shelly's Frankenstein to Wilde's Dorian Gray the show has a rich storyline with the first season ending with a shocking reveal that one of our heroes is a werewolf. The show won the 4th Critics Choice Television Award for Most Exciting new TV Series and rightly so; from an Emily Rose-esq exorcism to a super vampire viewers have not been disappointed in the first season with no lull in the storyline, every episode ends with the viewer on edge. The show was able to maintain its viewership between 0.75 million and 0.89 million viewers the whole season closing to 0.86 million viewers on June 9th 2014.
Shooting on the second season has already begun in Ireland and the cast and crew have been seen around Dublin shooting different scenes. The second season coming in early 2015 is rumored to include a character from the Dracula story. We wonder who it shall be and how they shall be dealt with considering Van Helsing met a brutal end at the hands of Dr. Frankenstein's creation. Our heroine Miss Ives whom we left seeking to be properly exorcised in season one is another character viewers are looking out for. Add to that the new Werewolf menace and Dr. Frankenstein's new project there is no doubt that season 2 will premier to a much larger number of viewers.
