Nicki Minaj's Suffered Abusive Childhood, Molds Her Into Who She Is Today
She is one of the most sought after rapper today, she's confident and sure of herself. She reinvents herself and is always offering something new to the fans. But behind the façade and her strong persona, Nicki Minaj hides a heartbreak that influenced her life in a big way.
Nicki Minaj's mother, Carol, revealed that her husband, Robert, was a cocaine and alcohol addict who used to beat his children, including Nicki.
Nicki channeled all of her energy and used her upbringing to become who she is today- a superstar. Carol tells that, there was this one time, when she tried to escape but her husband caught her and he punched her in the face. She also revealed that Nicki would sometimes spend her nights crying inside her room because of how her father treated her mother and her two brothers.
Carol relates that there was an incident where Robert burned their house down in New York because of "rage." In an interview, Nicki Minaj revealed that her childhood is filled with "'A lot of arguing, lots of screaming - there were holes punched into the walls in anger and cops being called to the house all the time." She added that she was always afraid that something bad is going to happen to her mother.
Nicki Minaj revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that when she arrived in U.S., she would always kneel down and pray to God to help her become successful and rich, so that she can take care of her mother.
Minaj came to New York City when she was five years old. She grew up in Trinidad and she also lived in Tobago with her grandparents.
Nicki Minaj's story can be truly inspiring especially to those kids who are in the same situation. It can help them see that there's hope and they can still be who they want to be in life. Just like Minaj, they can use all their difficulties and hardships as an inspiration and a challenge.
Minaj said that her father doesn't want her to talk about it in public, but according to her, "It's the price you pay when you abuse drugs and alcohol."
She added, "Maybe one day your daughter will be famous and talk to every magazine about it, so think about that, dads out there who want to be crazy."
