'Jane the Virgin' Latest Update and News: CONFIRMED! One of the Top TV Shows According to USA Today

It's official, Jane The Virgin is one of the biggest shows to watch this fall. According to Robert Bianco, TV Critic for USA Today, Jane The Virgin is one of the "best broadcast pilots of the new season."

Gina Rodriquez is the star of this funny telenovela show. Rodriquez is playing the role of Jane Villanueva, a twenty something woman who was a virgin, but was accidentally artificially inseminated during a routine gynecological exam. It was actually based on a telenovela "Juana La Virgen"

Rodriquez said, "I've learned, after I say the title and explain the premise, to stay quiet for a bit so the other person can process it."

Still critics are wondering if the show can compete with other TV shows - superheroes, vampires, and crimes. But the creators are confident that the show can offer viewers something new. It's a combination of  family and comedy genres.

Jane The Virgin features Rodriguez as a strong and independent woman, who can be a good role model for young audience. Rodriquez said, "It's going to be really exciting to go on this journey with this girl that has a very serious thing happen to her and see the way she chooses maybe not the popular choices in life, but the unpopular [on things like] her virginity. And I think that that's a really awesome thing to put out into the world right now where we are bombarded by twerking. And don't get me wrong, I can twerk."

The show is already triggering some issues and debates in society. Issues like, if Jane, should think about having an abortion or not. The creator of the show, however, cited that, it has never been their intention to push any agenda. They just want to create a show that can display, how an ordinary girl can handle an extraordinary situation.
