23 Jump Street Release Date, News and Updates: Sequel is Definitely Happening; Sony Hires Writer 

By the end of 22 Jump Street, it was somehow made clear that they wouldn't be making anymore sequels because of the fact that the whole film satirically pokes fun on how sequels just keep getting dumb and pointless. Well, Sony might not have gotten the message, and they are already convinced that a sequel must get underway.

With 22 Jump Street being the 10^th highest grossing film of the year at the domestic box office, its success is undeniable, and Sony, unsurprisingly, is convinced that  a 3^rd entry should garner the same success.

Writer Rodney Rothman has been officially been hired to pen the script for 23 Jump Street. Rothman is also credited for 22 Jump Street script alongside Michael Bacall, Oren Uziel, and Jonah Hill. He is also credited as one of the writers for 2013's boxing comedy 'Grudge Match' which stars Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone.

The real question now is whether 'Jumpstreet' directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller would come back as directors for 23 Jumpstreet. The two seemed pretty adamant that 22 Jump Street would be the last sequel to the franchise, and they've also even expressed that they were considering not to return for 22 Jump Street. They later changed their minds when they got the script. The directing duo is currently busy with television projects; "Last Man On Earth" and also a reboot of "Greatest American Hero." As for 23 Jump Street, we should cross our fingers and hope that the duo will come back after seeing that the script is to their liking. If that's not the case however, then hopefully Sony can find a director who can bring the same style of comedy film directing that Lord and Miller provided to the last two films.
