New York Yankees vs Kansas City Royals: Royals regain respect!
In the battle of the two great MLB teams, there was a clear show of respect for the competing teams when New York Yankees and Kansas City met for the baseball match. In the first inning the players from the Kansas City team gave a hat tip to Derek Jeter. Derek who is the captain and retiring was taken by surprise when the Kansas players showed their respect by tipping their caps.
However, the special day did not prove to be great for Derek when the New York Yankees team lost with a score of 2-0 against the Kansas city royals.
Derek's last day ceremony went on for 45 minutes and was attended by the NBA great Michael Jordan and Cal Ripmen Jr. The ceremony was made special with athletes sending out their video messages along with celebrities and astronauts in space.
Derek went emotional and gave a speech filled of emotions to all Yankees fans. It was a historical moment in the game's history. However, the expectation of Yankees winning the game and giving a wonderful farewell to Derek with a win did not materialize. Some even referred to the defeat as a "spoiler" for Derek Jeter and were disappointed by the loss.
The Kansas City Royals were well prepared and tumbled over the Yankees by 2-0 score.
Ned Yost, the manager for the Kansas City Royals was very happy with the performance and said "We're playing great baseball, We're pitching, and we're playing defense and scoring runs and winning ballgames, and that's all I can ask."
The ceremony for Derek concluded with Derek saying "I've had the greatest job in the world. I got to be the shortstop of the New York Yankees and there's only one of those". He praised Yankees and said, "The Yankees know how to put on a big ceremony; this is a day that I'll remember forever."
