Season 3 of Sherlock left everyone wondering if there will be a fourth season and also when it would return. Well, fans can now breathe easy as it turns out season 4 may not be too far away from being released.

According to "The Sun" BBC is accelerating Sherlock's fourth season for it to premiere in December 2014. However, this report is not reputable. A source also told the British Publication that "The BBC is desperate for a Sherlock Christmas Day special this year. It wants its biggest guns ready."

Season four will top the last season said Steven Moffat the show co-creator. He said that the upcoming series has plans to top the grand finale of season three with Moriarty back from the grave, describing the season as devastating.

This is what he told Hollywood Reporter.

"We practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them the plan. Honestly, Mark [Gatiss] and myself are so excited with what we've got coming up, probably more excited than we've ever been about Sherlock. ... Honestly I think we can [top the last series]."

Steven Moffat also said that the fourth season's premiere all lies in the hands of BBC. With the previous reporters claiming that the smashing series would be hitting the screens with only three episodes the show is expected to be back on air early 2016. It will also have a Christmas special in December 2015 before the fourth season kicks off.

BBC have not yet confirmed this however, the Christmas special of Sherlock will reportedly be based on the story of "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle"

"Sherlock" was quite a winner with the show bagging the top awards for its main character recently at the Emmy Awards. It does not came as a surprise that its fans are waiting for the very best on its fourth season. The film will experience delays due to the individual schedules of the actors Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch.
