Attack on Titan Season 2 Release, Episode 1: It Won't Happen This Year, It Hasn't Even Been Started Yet!

On April 1, 2014, blog site Otaku House at 3:21 AM headlined a post with the announcement that "Attack On Titan Season 2 Will Be Released In July 2014" and included a supposed trailer for the follow-through season to the acclaimed 2013 anime series. As may be expected, the blog post was taken as news and was spread around the world via the Internet. It seemed no one bothered to check that at 3:52 AM that same day, the Otaku House blogger posted an update that among others say "Oopppssieee, you probably guessed it. It's an April Fool's Day prank! Thank you everyone for being great sports!"

According to International Digital Times: "Wit Studios, the makers of the "Attack on Titan" anime, commented quite some time ago on the second season and made it quite explicit that it wasn't going to come out this year. They are not even working on it yet, instead devoting their time to a separate "Attack on Titan" anime that's being packaged with the manga. This is not speculation; this is stone cold fact. There won't be any more in the original "Attack on Titan" anime until 2015 at the earliest... There's a lot going on in the "Attack on Titan" universe right now... but "Attack on Titan" season 2 is not part of it."

In an interview with Rocket News 24 back in January, Joji Wada who Heads Wit Studio which produces the Attack on Titan franchise already disclosed that although they want to do a sequel, it just can't be done this year. He said, "Eventually, we definitely want to do a sequel. This year, though, we've got our hands full producing an anime that will be bundled in a limited edition of the Attack on Titan manga, which tells a different sort of story than what we did in the TV series."
