Sharp Aquos Crystal Release Date, Specs and News: TV Manufacturer Debuts First Smartphone in the US
Sharp is well-known for their televisions in the US, but now the company is bringing their own smartphone to the market. On Tuesday they debuted the Sharp Aquos crystal. The new smartphone will exclusively be available to Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile.
The Sharp Aquos Crystal carries a distinct look for having an edge-to-edge screen that covers about 78% of the whole front side of the device boasting to have the most screen to body ratio to any smartphone that's out today. Due to the fact that Sharp is known for their TVs, they were able to apply the same principles in their new smartphone. The LCD multi-touch display is 5-inches with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels with a pixel density of 294 ppi, which also carries a light sensor and a proximity sensor.
The front-facing camera an 8-megapixel autofocus camera which features a few manual controls including ISO control and white balance presets, and also having face detection, panorama and night mode features. The front-facing camera is 1.2 megapixels.
Inside the Sharp Aquos is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8926 system chip with a quad core processor with speeds of 1200 MHz, while the graphics processor is an Adreno 305. In terms of memory it has 1.5Gb of RAM with at least 8Gb of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128Gb through microSD cards. The device will run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The battery capacity is 2040 mAh with having at least 13 hours of talk time, and also claims to have a stand-by battery life of 3 days after a full charge. The Aquos Crystal will come in two colors, Black or White. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, and built-in wi-fi 801.11 b, g, n.
Sharp also announced another smartphone, the Aquos Crystal X, which is currently exclusive in Japan. It has a larger 5.5 inch display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 2Gb of RAM, and 32Gb of internal storage.
The Sharp Aquos Crytal will be available on August 22 for both prepaid and post-paid plans from Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile for as low as $149.99.
