Chris Whittington Talks About His New Album "REALITORIUM"
Singer/songwriter and Texas-based steel industry executive Chris Whittington has released the digital version of his new EP, REALITORIUM, today, August 30, 2024.
Listeners can find REALITORIUM on Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Tidal, YouTube, and other popular streaming platforms, or click here.
REALITORIUM, the follow-up to Whittington's debut project, BRIGHT PORTAL, has been described as a revival rhythm for the soul. It's a deep dive into all things rock n roll, spiritually reflective, and theology-driven. Listeners will find a collection of tunes with the essence of worship and praise, backed by a solid tradition of musicianship, crafted by a stellar host of Christian music industry icons
Q: Chris, thank you for doing this interview with us. You own a steel company: how did you become interested in music?
Thanks so much for the opportunity to speak with you. I've been interested in music for as long as I can remember. From birth to childhood, music was always playing in my parent's house. Classical, pop, rock, and folk mostly. My parents recognized my aptitude for music. Fortunately, I took trumpet lessons and later was gifted with a second-hand guitar which I essentially taught myself to play.
Q: How did you pursue God's call to lead worship?
It was during the Jesus Movement. A friend at a bible study taught me to play two guitar chords, and that was it. I went on to teach myself several more chords and, as I could sing pretty well, it was a natural progression to lead worship at bible studies, prayer meetings, church services and anywhere I was invited. Like Olympic runner Eric Liddell, who said, "When I run, I feel His pleasure," it has been my joy to lead God's people in His praise.
Q: You released your debut album Bright Portal; tell us a little about this record.
Bright Portal is the realization of my lifelong dream to record my own original music. To be creative is a reflection of the Creator and I'm grateful to God for this record.
Q: How is your new album different or similar to your previous record?
Realitorium picks up where Bright Portal left off. It delves deeper into biblical themes of truth, prodigal living and redemption. And, it has Phil Keaggy. What a blessing is Phil!
Q: What does Realitorium mean?
Realitorium is the arena of the created cosmos, the universe itself, which is there mediating God's glory, His existence, creatorship, and rule.
Q: Tell us more about your single "Psalm 139."
Having long since been a favorite, I set Psalm 139 to music for my love of how it describes reality. I mean, "the darkness and the light are the same to You. They cannot keep me away from You." If we believe that God makes all things work together for our good, then we must take great comfort in knowing there is nowhere we can hide from Him. We can embrace His love and mercy.
Q: What are you most excited about with this record, Realitorium?
Opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a dead and dying world. Fame and money are ephemeral, they come and go, but to encourage someone to love and do good works, that has lasting value and glorifies the Living God.chrysalis is defined as "a beautiful state of transformation."
