Family and Friends Gather for Kenny Rogers' Memorial Service Two Years After His Death
Country music artists Linda Davis (Lady A's Hillary Scott's mother) and Billy Dean hosted Kenny Rogers' Memorial Service last Sunday (March 20) at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. Rogers died died at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago. With the shutdowns, his family could not plan a memorial service right away. Now, after waiting for two years, a small group of Rogers' loved ones gathered at Atlanta, Ga.'s Oakland Ceremony to pay their respects and share stories about the singer.
The event featured 15 speeches Dr. T. Lynn Smith and Friends gospel choir performed "Amazing Grace" accompanied with a pre-recorded Kenny Rogers voice and a rendition of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," a long time Kenny Rogers favorite.
At the reception, memorial-goers got a first viewing of a new lyric video for Rogers' "Goodbye," a song that re-surfaced in the days following the singer's death and was sent to country radio in late March of 2020.
Moreover, Rogers' only Gospel album The Love Of God is making its debut on CD. Originally available only on digital platforms, the 2011 LP will be reissued as a deluxe edition on March 25 via Capitol Records Nashville/UMe.
As a special bonus, the album includes "The Gospel Truth," a rare track featuring The Oak Ridge Boys. While the band frequently toured with Rogers, most notably on the 1979 "Full House" arena tour, this recording marked their first collaboration in the studio. In addition, the extended album includes songs with Point of Grace, The Whites, and Whitfield's Locket, as well as covers of songs by Vince Gill ("The Rock Of Your Love"), Michael McDonald ("Peace"), and Michael W. Smith ("Grace"), plus such gospel classics as "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "Amazing Grace."
