Michael Feighan Chronicles His Journey from Being Part of Whitecross to Releasing "Someone Prayed"
The multi-talented Michael Feighan has released his new single, "I Still Believe." The song is a patriotic song that honors our military during the Labor Day holiday on September 6, and any day that salutes our nation. The single was co-written by Feighan and Matt Bissonette, and fulfills Michael and his dad's, Chief Master Sargent Mike Feighan, love for our country.
The single is from Feighan's upcoming solo project, Someone Prayed, that releases Oct. 15, 2021. The stellar production team on the project includes producer Matt Bissonette (Elton John, Ringo Starr), drummer Gregg Bissonette (Ringo Starr) and five-time Grammy® Award-winning engineer, Chris Lord-Alge (Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Tim McGraw).
Q: Michael, thanks for doing this interview with us. You started out as a drummer, how and when did you start playing drums?
I started playing drums around the age of 15. My dad had reel to reel tapes of the band Kiss and also artists like Rod Stewart. I would just sit and listen to these bands and when the drum solo from Peter Criss came on, I was mesmerized and got the bug for music.
Q: In the 90s, you were drummer for Christian metal band Whitecross. Tell us more about this season of your life.
My time with Whitecross was a wonderful experience! I was fortunate to join Whitecross when they were at the top of their game. I went from playing in garages and local clubs, churches to festivals and all around the country, and internationally also. The band was very serious about their ministry and wanted to lead people to Jesus. I will never forget how beautiful it was when people would come forward to give their lives to Jesus. It was very humbling that God chose me to be part of this awesome experience.
Q: What happened after Whitecross?
As music was changing, and less and less shows were becoming available and internal struggles happening, I felt it was time to take a break from Whitecross. I joined a band called Curious Fools for a while, who were signed to Toby Mac's label Gotee Records. I really enjoyed that band and there were some great times and music that was created, but things never got to the next level and my wife and I decided to move to Texas where her family is from. I started teaching drum lessons and playing in local bands, which included playing at a great church called Spring Creek Community Church.
Q: What inspired you to sing and record your own music?
I've always enjoyed singing, and I always wanted to do more of that but never thought it could happen. A dear friend of mine, who believes in me more than I do, convinced me to do a solo project. However, it seemed too challenging to actually take on something this big with all of the other stuff I had going on. I couldn't conceive how it would be possible. When Covid hit, my slate was cleared unfortunately and I realized this was the time to do the project. I jumped in with both feet and haven't looked back. God has truly blessed me in this endeavor and I'm so excited for this music and ministry to touch lives!
Q: With the anniversary of 9/11 coming up, tell us more about your new single "I Still Believe."
With the anniversary of 9/11 coming up, I am truly excited about my first release, "I Still Believe." It's a patriotic song and I want it to bring hope to our country, and what it was built on, which is God. My goal is to give hope to the people of this country and that it is not too late for this beautiful country to come together again under one God. My dad was in the military for 27 years and he loved his country and he loved God. I want to honor those men and women who died for our freedom's. I still believe!
Q: What were some of the highlights for you in the making of your upcoming EP Someone Prayed?
I would say some of the amazing highlights in the making of the EP, Someone Prayed, would definitely be working with Matt and Gregg Bissonette. These guys are consummate musicians who love Jesus, and have played and performed with the best of the best. It was surreal to find myself in the studio with these guys, who I had admired as a young musician from the sidelines, and now I was on the playing field with them.
Q: I believe one of the songs on the new record is about your adopted daughter Tatiana. Tell us more about adopting your daughter and how she inspired this new song?
I'm so very excited about the song on my EP, "Before Time Began," which is about my daughter, Tatiana. We adopted her from Russia when she was eight-years-old and now she is 21 and working at a Christian camp in New Mexico. It wasn't the easiest transition, but I couldn't imagine my life without her. While writing this song, I asked Matt Bissonette to write a second verse about his son, so the 3rd verse now focuses on how we are all God's adopted children. This song came out so wonderful and I just can't wait for the public to hear it.
Q: What do you hope your listeners will take away after listening to this record?
I hope that after listening to my record, my listeners have a renewed hope in God who truly loves them more than they will ever know. He never changes and He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He still heals, delivers and saves those who call on Him. I want the listeners to have smiles on their faces and more peace after hearing Someone Prayed.
