Michael W. Smith Pays Tribute to His Dad with New Song and Book
Grammy Award winner Michael W. Smith is paying tribute to his dad this year with a brand new song "Dusty Road." The country-tingled single was produced by Tre Corley and written by Smith and Cindy Morgan. The song speaks about the legacy Michael's dad Paul Smith has had left behind and how he has impacted his children in their walk in life.
In addition to "Dusty Road," Smith has also released a book The Way of the Father about his dad. In the book, Michael shares how his dad inspired and encouraged him using biblical principles and virtues. Now, Michael passes on these same truths through stories, testimonies, origins of songs, and personal insights from his family life and thirty-five plus years of touring as a Christian artist.
This is what the press release has to say about Michael's dad, "Paul Smith was a familiar face in the crowd at Michael W. Smith's concerts over the years. A kind and joyful man who would sing, dance, and worship to the singer's countless number one hits, with his countenance beaming brighter than the spotlights on the stage, Paul would often introduce himself to those nearby and talk about how proud he was of his son. From the artist's early days as a struggling musician in Nashville to his death in 2015 (the year his son's album sales surpassed 15 million), Paul was always Michael's biggest fan."
Here are the lyrics of "Dusty Road:"
[Verse 1]
Dusty road, buried dreams, pieces on the ground
Saw the ghosts of empty streets, of that West Virginia town
You worked for years on swing shift at the oil refinery
You loved your wife and your kids, and one of those kids was me
And the sweat upon your brow was like the tears of Heaven pouring out
You said, "Keep walking on down, down this dusty road
We're gonna make it somehow"
[Verse 2]
Now I wish that you were here, you'd be amazed to see
That today looks like a page torn from 1933
In my dreams to you I run, in golden fields where angels kiss the sun
You say, "Keep walking on down, down this dusty road
We're gonna make it somehow"
I can feel it, feel it in my bones
That there's a place up ahead that looks like home
We keep walking on down, down this dusty road
We're gonna make it somehow (Make it somehow)
We're gonna make it somehow
Yes, we are
[Instrumental]
[Verse 3]
And a peace comes to me now
Like a steady hand to lead us out
We keep walking on down, down this dusty road
We're gonna make it somehow
I can feel it, feel it in my bones
That there's a place up ahead that looks like home
We keep walking on down, down this dusty road
We're gonna make it somehow (Make it somehow)
We're gonna make it somehow
Yes, we are
