Scottish Worship Leader Steph Macleod Shares How He Escaped Death
Scottish singer-songwriter, worship leader and mental health awareness advocate Steph Macleod has a brand new Integrity Music EP O Perfect Father coming out this week. However, the road to the release of this new record has not been easy. As a teenager, Steph was a promising classical guitar student at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, but personal problems stemming from his teenage years led to mental health problems. Steph then turned to alcohol and drugs.
Macleod broke contact with friends and his family. Due to the seveity of his drug addiction, he was banned from homeless hostels. He was informed by doctors that death was inevitable if he continued in such a manner. Then on February 13th 2006, Macleod found himself in the Bethany Christian Centre; a 17 bed hostel for homeless men with addiction problems.
During his 8 month stay at the Bethany centre Steph began to address his reasons for drinking and taking drugs. It was during this time that he also found the saving grace of Jesus Christ! Things started to change dramatically in his life. In Steph's own word's, "I cried out to God in my darkest hour. I asked Him to save me. I asked for a life worth living. God answered big time!"
One of the new songs on the new record "No Other God" captures his reflection of how God saved him:
No other God can judge
The weight of sin that dwells in us
And yet amid His grace
His blood declares my guilt erased
What is this love
This ancient hope
You come to me
With righteous robes
Clothing me in Your salvation
