'Grey's Anatomy' Season 11 Release Date 2014, Spoilers, Cast Updates, Shonda Rhimes Shares Storylines
As "Grey's Anatomy" nears its Season 11 premiere this Fall, fans are getting a better glimpse of what the new season will be like. Show creator Shonda Rhimses spoke with The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. You can read the full interview HERE.
When asked about the theme of the upcoming season, she shared, "I don't know yet. Right now, if you were in the writers' room you'd probably tell me the theme was Meredith, because that's all I keep saying. I'm like, "The show is just about Meredith Grey!" Maybe the theme is Meredith at this point. It's really a Meredith-centric season. There's a lot of growth. She's lost her person. Her sister has showed up. Her husband is chafing to go someplace else. She's got all these things going on. Maybe that's the theme, maybe it's independence. But for me right now, it feels like it's Meredith. I'm feeling her more acutely because she's lost her person."
Cristina's departure must open up a whole new avenue for storytelling. "Yes, which is why I felt like it was the right moment to meet Meredith's sister, to meet Ellis Grey's other daughter. There's Meredith's sister, which are the other children of Thatcher Grey (Jeff Perry), and then there is Ellis Grey's other daughter, which is a whole other thing, which is the only child that came out of a relationship with somebody who Ellis was in love is very different from Meredith being born from Thatcher and Ellis."
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 is set to premiere on Thursday night, September 25th at 8/7c on ABC.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 will be adding actress Caterina Scorsone full time as Amelia Shepherd to the cast. She made appearances last season as Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) sister, but has decided to make Seattle her home calling off her engagement with her fiancé in Los-Angeles. Maggie Pierce will also be joining the team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as Meredith's sister and Ellis' daughter.
Filming for Season 11 has not started yet but the script is already well underway, if not complete. Wetpaint rumors that some "bad news" will hit the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in the first few episodes of Season 11. This could be in the form of a "massive catastrophe", "departure of a dearly beloved cast member" or "Major marital strife between Meredith and Derek" are options that they speculate. However, there is no confirmation on show's storyline. The above mentioned scenarios should be treated as mere speculations by Wetpaint.
"Grey's Anatomy" became one of the most popular shows on television when it aired in 2005 after a few down years recently the show ranked No. 15 in the 2013-2014 season and also re-entered the top five shows in the 18-49 viewer demographic durings it's tenth season.
You can check out all new episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" on ABC when Season 11 premieres in September on Thursday nights.
