Brawl at Hillsong Church Left a Security Guard Hospitalized
A brawl broke out outside Hillsong Church in Waterloo, Sydney in Australia today. As some teenagers were leaving the Australian mega church after a youth meeting, a disagreement broke up. The young men soon resorted to violence. Hillsong's City Campus security guard Ashil Nada who tried to stop the fight was knocked unconscious to the ground from an alleged "coward punch".
The 33-year-old security guard was trying to protect a group of young worshippers when police say he was punched in the back of the head, while intervening in a street brawl. He was sent immediately to hospital where he is recovering from the brutal blow.
"He is a really great guy and has served as part of the security team here for many years... and our thoughts are really with him," one of the church's pastors commented. The pastor said there appeared to a passer-by in a car who "recognised one person that was walking home and what ensued was some kind of scuffle".
Neighbors have noted that this is not the first time rowdy behaviors have been demonstrated by the youths from the church. Police are continuing their search for the men involved.
In August 1983, Brian and Bobbie Houston founded the Hills Christian Life Centre in the Hills District of Sydney, Australia. It has grown from a congregation of 45 to what is said to be the largest local church in Australian history. It has now expanded to be a global church with local expressions in significant cities; with churches in Australia, London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Cape Town, Stockholm, Germany, Kiev, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Phoenix. Each week, tens of thousands of people across the globe call Hillsong Church 'home' and the reach, impact and influence of this local congregation is seen across many nations.
