Ten Years Ago Amy Grant Added a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Ten years ago, Amy Grant added a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to her list of career accolades. With friends, family, industry VIPs and fans in attendance, Grant's husband/country music star Vince Gill and founder of A&M Records Jerry Moss spoke at the September 19th ceremony, along with Johnny Grant, Honorary Mayor of Hollywood and Walk of Fame Chairman.
Grant's Star is located on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Virgin Records store, next to John Travolta and movie legend Buster Crabbe's Stars, and also just down the sidewalk from Billy Graham's star. Upon her acceptance of the honor, Grant commented, "I see all my family, co-workers and friends and I have to say, nothing happens alone. Life is like a massive vessel, you don't sail alone......It's been an exciting ride! Thank you."
That fall in 2006, Grant released her first live recording in 25 years with Time Again... Amy Grant Live on September 26th. Then she conducted a Symphony tour, performing with local symphonies in markets including Atlanta, Minneapolis, Kansas City and more. During her Nashville tour stop on September 10th, Nashville Symphony President and CEO Alan Valentine surprised Amy with an announcement that the stage of the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center was being named the Amy Grant Performance Platform, in recognition of her generosity to the symphony. She helped the symphony overcome bankruptcy in the 1980s and continues to be a longtime supporter. Grant was host to the second evening in three opening weekend galas for the Nashville Symphony's new home, Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Among her guests were her husband, Vince Gill, LeAnn Rimes and Michael W. Smith.
