Was Christina Grimmie Murdered Because of Her Christian Faith?
Was the Voice's alum Christina Gimmie murdered for her Christian faith? On June 10, 2016, Grimmie was shot by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl while she signed autographs following her performance with Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida. Loibl then fatally shot himself after being tackled by Grimmie's brother Marcus. The singer was rushed to the Orlando Regional Medical Center. According to an employee at the hospital, Christina died shortly after she was brought to the ER.
According to Santa Monica Observer, the Orlando police are still trying to figure out Loibl's motive for killing Grimmie. It is believed that the murder was a hate crime. The outlet reported that it "has become increasingly apparent" to the investigators that the murder was inspired because of the singer's "outspoken Christian faith."
Grimmie, who became a YouTube sensation in July 2009, garnered much attention for her rendition of "In Christ Alone." She also considered herself as a "full-on Christian who loves Jesus," the "Lord and Savior" whom she sang for, and shared that her favorite book was the Bible, according to the Gospel Herald.
In one article she titled "Why Do You Call Yourself A Christian?" she wrote, "We need to be awoken to the magnitude of the gospel every day. Where do we start? Let's do what Jesus says.
"Even if we lose our lives, there is nothing more important that following Jesus with everything that we are. If you have read this, God is pursuing you. My fervent prayer is that we all may deeply know Jesus and know what he demands when He says 'Follow Me.' May our eyes be opened to know exactly what it means when we say 'I am a Christian.'"
