Sarah Galimore Shares Her Stories About Her Ministries & Her New Album "Let Go"
Sarah Galimore is an independent christian artist whose music is inspired by day-to-day experiences, the prayers, challenges, and joys in life's journey. In quiet moments with Him, innermost thoughts shared and spoken become words on a page and melodies of the heart.
In the first album released, Let Go, Sarah seeks to reflect all that Christ means to her and encourage every listener to move deeper in their faith. Thanks for listening and be sure to learn more about Sarah and connect with her further at www.sarahgalimore.com.
Hallels: Sarah, you have a really interesting life and you wear many hats, from being a musician to an IT Consultant to a project manager, so let's start with yourself. Tell us a little about yourself.
Sarah: Yes, life is definitely interesting! I grew up in a small farm community in upstate NY, so I am a country girl at heart. Mom and dad always encouraged my brothers and sisters and I to be creative, play outdoors, and explore our interests and so we did. It inspired a lot of curiosity, self-motivation and discipline which I've carried into my career and personal life. My sister and I were always musically inclined, singing in chorus, playing in the band, musical theater, classical groups, and serving as church musicians. Music has always been a part of my life, but it wasn't until recently that I was able to actually pursue it.
When I graduated from high school, I was really focused on getting a good education. I studied Business Administration and Technology to allow for flexibility in my career path. I learned skill sets that were really transferable from industry to industry, which led to wonderful opportunities in the consulting field and really rewarding, flexible work. It also provided me the resources and background to explore and cultivate my other interests such as education and music. Now I am working hard to share my experiences and support students as they navigate the education and workforce and finally devoting serious time to my music. I think I have an interesting story to tell and a message of encouragement.
It's been quite the journey and I am so thankful every day for how the Lord has guided and blessed me every step of the way. To be a blessing to others through my work and give Him glory, is where my heart really is.
Hallels: You also started Seventh Age Music. What do you wish to achieve through Seventh Age Music?
Sarah: Seventh Age Music is the entity I established for my music projects, my first one being my album "Let Go." I think when people hear my music, they will be encouraged and relate to the message, which is really one of finding peace and comfort in letting go and letting God have his way in your life. I would love to reach as many people as I can with that message. I have many more songs I hope to be able to record and release. I can't wait to connect with listeners, share the experiences that inspired each song, and learn how my music touches their life. To inspire and create an avenue for greater fellowship along this theme of surrender and connecting deeper with the Word is what this is all about.
Hallels: What led you to record your brand new record "Let Go"?
Sarah: I am going to blog about this in greater detail one day, but this album is me following through on some promises I made to myself, a few others and more importantly, God. Since I was I think twelve or so, I have this notebook that I would right down my songs in. I never ever typed the lyrics up and put them on a computer or recorded the music, or anything. My sister and I would sing at camps and different venues as we were growing up. People would ask if we had a record and I always thought, maybe one day.....Well, I LOST my notebook a few years back. It is quite an amazing story in terms of what went down thereafter, but the short version is, I took it as a sign that when God gives you a gift, you shouldn't take it for granted. I am not the greatest singer in the world, but I felt like my songs were inspired and you have to yield whatever talents He has given as they are given for a purpose. So after my notebook was restored - and I do mean restored!, I committed to focusing on my music. It took a few years to research studios, figure out my budget, make all my demos, record the album, etc. but here we are!
Hallels: How would you describe your style of music?
Sarah: To be honest, I am not quite sure. I don't know where it fits in the genre's out there. I think the best way to describe it is inspirational christian with both a contemporary and country vibe. It's not pop, rock, or anything like that. Some of the songs are praise and worship in nature, but most are much more laid back, almost contemplative. Really peaceful and encouraging.
Hallels: Did you write your own music on this record "Let Go"? And who did you work with on this record?
Sarah: I wrote the lyrics and composed the music for all of the songs. I was really blessed to find Crossroads Recording Studios out of Asheville, NC to help me produce the record. They have an amazing team down there of talented musicians, producers, and engineers who collaborate with you throughout the process. It was a great experience and I was really happy with the album.
Hallels: Have you release a new single off "Let Go" yet? If so, can you tell our readers what the song's about?
Sarah: I think so.... All of the songs are available through CD Baby and other outlets such as iTunes, Amazon, etc. I am pretty new to the music industry and an independent artist, so I am still working to learn about the process of releasing and promoting music. I have started promotion around specific songs off the album: It Was Love, Here I Am, and Fall On Your Knees. It Was Love is about the moment I think I finally caught what the grace of God is really all about. Not everyone has a relationship with Jesus Christ and understands what He did for us. I remember how it just hit me one day that it was nothing but His unconditional love for me, not what my parents did or what I do. I was raised in a Christian home, so I can't remember a time when I didn't know about the love of God, but this was different. This was when I realized, He didn't have to choose to reveal Himself to me, but He did.
Hallels: If you have to pick out two songs off "Let Go" that has impacted your life the most, which would they be? And why?
Sarah: Fall On Your Knees and Everything's Changing. They are more recent songs that reflect some major shifts in my life. The first came about during a tough time when I was struggling in a pretty dark place. It was prayer and the constant reminders He sent me to let me know He was always there that brought me through and inspired that song. Everything's Changing was a last minute addition to my album but it reflected my acknowledgement that my life, my focus, was changing. It's so easy to get caught up in your career and get really busy with work and such. That was me for a long while, but then things just started to change and I wanted to make sure that my relationship with God is my top priority. My album is a step in that direction for sure.
Hallels: Many of your songs deal with prayer. Can you relate a time in your life where you have experienced the power of God through prayer?
Sarah: Prayer has always been a focus point in my family. My mom always told me no matter what the situation is, pray and call on the name of Jesus. I was driving home one night after a long day at work followed by an evening graduate course until 9pm. At that time, I was still living at home, so it was over an hour commute one way. I was tired and veered off the road slightly, spooked and overcompensated. I lost control of the car and when I realized there was nothing I could do, I just prayed. I could only get one word out before my car started flipping. That one word was "Jesus." My car flipped several times and as I was rolling I kept praying through every impact. When I realized I was alive, I cried and cried, hanging upside down in my car, surrounded by total darkness. I couldn't see anything, had no clue where my phone or purse was. Even my sandals were no longer on my feet. I started feeling around and realized that my driver side window was gone so I crawled out through the broken window. I had no clue where I was, it was pitch black, so I stood there for a while.
Then I heard a car and started walking in the direction of the road. I am walking on the side of a country road late at night, no shoes, in total disarray, and tears running down my face. Two cars passed me and didn't stop. I didn't know what to do but then a truck pulled up and the guy told me his family heard the crash from their house and he came out to see what happened. He drove slowly next to me until we got to his house and helped me call my family. When we looked at pictures from the crash, it was the grace of God I a walked away with minor injuries. My dad and I cried looking at the pictures and he didn't even show my mom.
I later learned there had been a similar crash on that road a few weeks prior but that person went off the road hit a tree and did not survive. I just happened to go off the road on the one stretch where there was a cornfield, but I know without a doubt, it was divine intervention that kept me that night. I called Jesus on the scene, prayed through the ordeal and walked out of that crash alive. My life is truly in His hands.
