R100 Movie Release Date, Reviews, News, Reveals and Updates: Movie Slated to Release on December 12th 2014
The art of film making has really been commercialized with studios pandering to the audience. However, there are films that are keeping the art part of it alive and R100 has to be one of these movies. Japanese film maker Hitoshi Matsumoto directed starred and wrote the screenplay for his film. Warner Brothers, Phantom Film and Yoshimoto Kogyo company came together to produce this movie with Drafthouse Films and Warner Bros. dealing with distribution. The 94 minute movie was first shown on September 12th 2013 at the Toronto Film Festival and is slated for a December 12th 2014 theatre release.
The first really interesting fact about the movie is the title; R100 which alludes to the fact that the movie is only suitable for people 100 years and older as they are the only ones who can understand the movie as a whole. Takafumi Katayama is a salesman in the mattress department of a big store and with a wife in a coma and a little boy at home you would think he has his hand full however as you would expect he is into S&M and to bring a little excitement into his life he signs a contract with a company called Bondage. He is informed that at any point a dominatrix will turn up. As you would imagine it would be well coordinated and private, it is in no way like that, different women turn up at different times and do totally depraved things to this gentleman and to compound issues he cannot terminate the contract. The movie gets sillier and sillier and at different points it pans out to a room of directors who are also watching the movie and find it just as silly not to mention the 100 year old director.
In an interview Hitoshi said he saw himself as the 100 year old director and that he wanted to play the lead role but was not old enough. The movie is definitely worth checking out for one's self as it has received mixed reviews from 'mediocre' to 'a work of art'.
