Samsung Galaxy S5 versus Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus: How Upgraded is the New Handset From the Korean-based Tech Giant?
After losing significant market share, after Apple has unveiled iPhone 6 series and hit record breaking sales, the Korea-based tech giant has discreetly unveiled an upgraded version of their existing latest smarphone, Samsung Galaxy S5.
Seen as an effort to do some "damage control," Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus was revealed amid rumors and anticipation for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 as reported by Forbes. In as much as it is dubbed as the improved version of the existing S5, let us compare the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus to the existing Samsung Galaxy S5 based on NDTV and GSM Arena.
The main boost in the new Galaxy S5 Plus is its new Snapdragon 805 chipset that is considered the "fastest and most efficient" Qualcomm chipset to date. This latest processor, that gives ultra-fast performance, makes the S5 Plus the fastest Android smartphone to date.
Galaxy S5 Plus' processor clocked at 2.5 GHz is a huge boost from S5's quad-core 801 Snapdragon chipset. The improved version also features a roughly 70 percent improved memory bandwidth and the upgraded Adreno 420 GPU compared to S5's Adreno 330. S5 Plus also has a new processor, Krait 450, which is relatively superior to its predecessor's Krait 400 processor.
Samsung also equipped its latest handset with an improved 4G performance compared to S5 with "support for LTE Advanced." This means the new Galaxy S5 Plus can potentially have 300Mbps download which is a big boost from the original's 150Mbps download capacity.
Aside from the boost in processor, chipset, GPU, and 4G performance, S5 Plus and S5 both have similar hardware and software specifications. Both handsets sports 5.1-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The two Samsung S5 also has 2GB RAM and expandable 16GB internal memory.
S5 Plus and S5 original are both equipped with 16MP major camera without optical image stabilization unlike the Galaxy Note 4. On the other hand, both smartphones feature a 4k Ultra HD video recording. The two handsets share the same 2800 mAh removable battery.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus and its predecessor S5 both have the same body built at 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm or 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.32 in and weigh 145 grams or 5.11 oz.
The Korean tech-giant has yet to announce if it will continue selling the original S5 smartphone and fans would need to wait as well for the release of the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus.
